Okay, we still wipe our butts with paper and have sex the old-fashioned way, and I don't see that changing in the next twelve years, but you can't get everything right. I don't think I've seen Demolition Man since it came out in 1993 watching it today, I was amazed at how accurate some of its predictions of the future were (in essence, at least): in the film, digital transactions have replaced real money, there's a guy holding what could be considered a digital tablet (albeit a tad chunkier than an iPad), there are self-driving cars, non-contact social greetings (a must during these pandemic days), a board room where a virtual meeting takes place (although Zoom it ain't), and it's not hard to imagine how our current overly-PC/snowflake/cancel culture might eventually go so far as to make swearing illegal.
In the end, Phoenix is killed, and Spartan looks to build a new life in the future with Huxley (Sandra Bullock).When 20th century violent criminal Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) breaks out of cryogenic prison in the year 2032 and wreaks havoc in a seemingly peaceful utopian society, wrongfully convicted cop John Spartan (AKA The Demolition Man) is thawed out to bring the maniac to justice.
The movie culminates in a final battle between Spartan and Phoenix. Spartan awakens to find himself in a highly advanced, peaceful society that's depending on him to capture Phoenix. Decades later, Phoenix escapes from confinement, and Spartan is thawed out to deal with him. After Spartan was accused of a crime he didn't commit, both were placed in a cryogenic prison. The original Demolition Man told the story of Stallone's John Spartan, a police officer who was embroiled in a conflict with a dangerous criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes). and in its current state, the project looks "fantastic". In response to a fan question on Instagram, Stallone said that Demolition Man 2 is in the works at Warner Bros. The sequel to the 1993 science fiction movie was recently confirmed to be in development by the star of the original film, Sylvester Stallone. Wesley Snipes' character died at the end of Demolition Man, but there could be a way for him to return in Demolition Man 2.
